  1. My 17th Lost Lanes Wales – ridden on 9th August (am). There is a large free car-park just next door to the railway station in Gowerton which I used as my start and end point. I rode out and back on the same route to log 69km with a paltry 230m of ascent.

This ride has a very different feel to the other rides in the book being flat and largely traffic-free. Nevertheless the coastal scenery is lovely with spacious views across estuaries, mud-flats and the occasional sandy beach.

“Gair i’r gall” – instead of turning right at The Lighthouse Café in Burry Port carry straight on and turn right onto the sea-wall at the back of the pretty little beach. A short ride along the top of the sea-wall brings you to a path on your right which takes you back to the original route.

  2. Completed the ride yesterday. Parked in the station. Plenty of parking spaces available on a Saturday morning. Rode out into quite a strong westerly wind which was tough going at times on the unsheltered parts of the route.
Decide to ride back rather than catching the train in order to reap the benefit of the wind. Took a slightly different return route, following NCN route 4 which bypasses Pembrey but does bring you back to the coastline.
Very enjoyable ride. Took me back to my childhood as I used to ride quite regularly to Kidwelly and back from Llanmadoc.

We parked easily and for free in the well signposted car park fairly near the station, then (top tip) excellent breakfast in town at Station 86. Afyer that the cycle route was easy to follow Route 4… and although a bit tough into the wind sometimes along the coast on the way… stick with it: the journey home was a dream with the tail wind. I’m not a regular cyclist but the 42 miles was quite easily doable. At the turn around point we had a super lunch at the Kidwelly Deli. Again… heartily recommended. D&D x
