Hello!
The GPX file on this page could have some issues – it will not load into OS Maps online as it thinks there is a problem with it.
From the network response when trying to upload:
{
“code”:”ROUTES-10002″,
“message”:”Validation error”,
“errorId”:”befa7244580df0e0″,
“timestamp”:”2022-05-06T20:50:58.682334Z”,
“additionalInfo”:{
“features”:[
“[ROUTES-VALID-0009] Point (-0.9118938, 54.371477, NaN) is too far from track (tolerance is $1.0E-6)”
],
“@errors”:[
“ROUTES-VALID-0009”
]
}
}
I got it to work by downloading the TCX version and converting it to GPX with an online tool.
Hi Lee
This looks to me like it’s a bug / feature of the OS Maps App not a fault in the GPX file.
The error message you have received indicates that the app has rejected the GPX file because it considers one of the Point of Interest waypoints (the one for the Rosedale valley optional circuit) is too far from the main route track. I think the OS maps app is largely made for walkers, not cyclists. The TCX worked because it doesn’t contain any of the POI waypoints.
Hope that helps.
Jack
I did this ride along with my Dad (who had battery power to help) last Saturday. It started with both of us nearly ending up in the ford at Grosmont (very slippery so perhaps take the footbridge for safety). Thankfully because it was so hot, the wet feet did not dampen our spirits. Overall, the ride was enjoyable but bloody hard work with the high temperature and humidity, wind and seemingly endless hills. I’m not generally a person who rides more than 50 miles so although I’m not unfit but I’m no King of the Mountains by any stretch! My Dad who is 78 and constantly eulogising about the longevity of his bike’s battery made it home with 5% left!
I often wonder on days like this when I’ve been pushing up hill off the bike (particularly in the stretch of the ride before Rosedale Abbey) HOW ON EARTH do people manage to do these Audax rides of 200 miles plus?! Chapeau!
