  1. This really is a magnificent route with so much to see and a variety of terrain. However, the ride was spoilt by one section. The section described in the book ‘From Tolpuddle, a little-used off-road track leads north …’ is to be avoided unless you have a mountain bike with good suspension. It is very rough and hazardous in places. Take the road east out of Tolpuddle and then turn north under the A35 to take the minor road east of Weatherby Castle and on to Milborne St Andrew. I found the whole route rewarding but quite arduous.

Rode it on a road bike with 28mm continental ‘four seasons’ was fine, there is fun to be had in being under biked.
