  1. Enjoyable Loop today 28/06/20 following gpx trail on my garmin. A couple of minor navigation errors, got confused on the footpath section in Rotherham after ending up in the Nursery, and the travellers encampment spread almost over the trail meant missing my turning, dogs friendly though.

  2. Cycled the 5 weirs section yesterday, apart from one short section which remains closed (diversion on road) the rest is open. Its a much more cycle-friendly ride than the canal towpath from Sheffield to Meadowhall

As well as the closure of the short section of the 5 weirs path mentioned above, the trans-pennine trail also has closures in Rotherham for much of 2022. The best diversion might be to head up through Blackburn meadows onto the A6178 and follow this for a short while, then follow Sheffield Road towards Rotherham Central Station, where you can rejoin the route…

  4. An excellent circuit. I started at Meadowhall. There is only a very short section of the Five Weirs Path closed. The only difficulty was the short section of bridle path off Cinder Bridge Rd (starting at SK429954) which was overgrown. I had a pit stop at Elsecar Heritage Centre. Both the highlighted features of Hoober Stand and the Needle’s Eye are worth seeing. Highly recommended route.
