Instruction at 34.5 miles: shouldn’t that be ‘Hopton Castle, turn left then immediately right (Twitchen)’?
Ridden on 22nd June (am) and my 13th Lost Lanes Wales. I stayed overnight at The Charlton Arms, overlooking the river in Ludlow, and rode from there. I recorded 60km with 870m of elevation gain.
Another lovely ride, this time accompanied by lots of surprised rabbits not used to cyclists in their roads and a range of agricultural smells. I also had a close encounter with a sparrow-hawk perched on a branch overhanging the road. He eyed me very carefully as I climbed the hill towards him but fortunately opted for flight rather than fight. The church at Richard’s Castle is in a lovely spot and worth spending some time looking round.
“Gair i’r gall” – save some energy for the climb up to Edge View. It comes late in the ride and it’s a long hard slog!
