I did this ride yesterday (but starting from Shrewsbury train station). It’s really stunning, even in the rain! However I noticed a small error on the pdf cue sheet: it says “In Little Stretton, turn left by the Ragleth Inn” and it should be a right turn. Also at 7.7km (Turn left and cross the cattle grid) someone has put up a sign saying “Private Property No Access” – I ignored it, it doesn’t seem like a private road.

  2. Ridden on 21st June 2016. I started from the small pay & display car park in Lutwyche Road, Church Stretton. This was my 12th Lost Lanes Wales ride and I recorded 43km with 840m of elevation gain.

Another gorgeous ride full of lovely little lanes. The ride deserves its ‘challenging’ tag, if only for the long climb to the top of the Mynd, but the views from the top and the plummeting descent back into Church Stretton make it all very worthwhile.

There are two off-road sections on the route. The section at the top of the Mynd is easy going even for my 23mm tyres. Not so the section through Hamperley Plantation where I was reduced to walking/wading through some short muddy sections (though I’d still recommend sticking to the route).

  3. Rode this route in April 2017; great route and nothing too punishing on the climbing front. Pub at the bridges is the best food stop. Also has accommodation as well. Bit of off-road across the top of the Mynd is very smooth gravel; we were on road bikes with 25mm tyres. Probably dries out quite quickly up there if it’s been wet. A lot of the ride is on ‘green lanes’, so if it was wet you’d probably have already picked up a bit of mud already! Road alternatives if you want to avoid the off-road.
