  1. Some parts of this were lovely, but be warned:-

    a) The route out of Birmingham has more broken glass on the road than anywhere I’ve ridden (apart from the other Birmingham ride in this book!)
    b) The bridleway between Icknield St and Moorfield farm is, for me, unrideable. Definitely not on a road bike. It’d be tricky to walk on, it’s very narrow, and despite us attempting it at the end of a dry week of 30 degree days, it was deeply muddy in places, it’d be impossible after rain.
    c) Parts of the towpath from Wilmcote to Stratford are also impossible on a road bike
    d) Stratford is best avoided at weekends, on a Saturday afternoon it was heaving & I got stuck in traffic.

I was a bit disappointed as I’ve had a great many super happy days following these rides, but I took a friend along on this one & he bailed half way as the off-road bits were not his cup of tea.
