  1. We did this ride on Saturday and absolutely loved it. Feels very strange riding down one lane roads in Surrey, but was fabulous. We probably should have gone and done Box Hill given we were in the area – but the Surrey Oaks (in Parkgate) and its award wining beers won out!

  2. December 2014. This super little ride just right for a short, cold December day. Its worth a detour down to Charlwood to see the medieval wall paintings in St Nicholas Church. Excellent coffee and technical chat in Pilgrim Cycles at Box Hill station as we waited for train home. Navigation extreemly easy.

  3. Bought the book yesterday, did this delightful tour this afternoon, in glorious sunny weather. Thanks for putting all these resources together. If all the rides in the book are as enjoyable as this one, I’ll look forward very much to doing the other 35 over the next year or two. I stopped for tea on the green in Brockhurst (in aid of the Scouts on this occasion) and did the detour to Charlwood suggested by Linda (church closed, unfortunately – on a Sunday too!). I started from Redhill, not Westhumble, since the train from Victoria takes half as long (on a Sunday at least), only 30 minutes. This made the ride longer (49km in total), but I’d rather spend an extra half an hour in the saddle to save an hour in the train (over a return trip). This meant I didn’t do the portion of the route from Westhumble, nor a very short stretch between Flanchford Farm and Trumpetshill.

Just one suggestion: could you add a little more information explaining how to transfer the GPX file from this site to the Viewranger app? I hadn’t used this app before and neither the Viewranger website nor the app are very clear on how to do it. I did manage it this time, but through a roundabout method involving more luck than judgment.

    1. Hi Paul
Glad you enjoyed the ride and, more importantly, the teas. And quite right to adapt the route to suit your own preferences and transport links. That’s what it’s all about. I’ve added a couple of links to the step by step instructions for importing GPX files into Viewranger, onto the how to page here http://lostlanes.co.uk/gps-on-tablets-and-smartphones/
      I hope that helps.
      Jack

  4. BrockHAM, not Brockhurst, of course. I did a lovely walk from Brockenhurst in in the New Forest last week and the name must have lingered in my subconscious.

  5. Cracking ride even without the lure of the tea at the end!

Wonderfully quiet, not too flat and not too hilly, it was a delightful way to spend this Sunday in the winter sun.

  6. August 2016. Lovely ride – but the road between Leigh Place and Flanchford Farm is currently completely closed for bridge repairs (until Nov 2016 according to the notice). Avoid this by riding straight on through Leigh and taking Snowerhill Road towards Betchworth and then left towards Brockham. Ended with delicious coffee and cake at Pilgrim Cycles in Westhumble.

  7. I did this one last weekend. A couple of points about the directions:

@0.4km: There is an under pass just to your left. So you can go to the other side of the road and so there won’t be a need to cross the A24 at the roundabout with cars (km 1.3).

  8. Another fabulous ride. Easy going mostly and a half day ride including stops so you could pop up the Zig Zag to Box Hill for the view of where you’ve been. Worthwhile detouring to Charlwood to see the church and wall painting and magnificent yew tree. Nice sheltered spot for lunch too. Thanks.

  9. We did this ride today (Saturday), setting off early as the weather was very warm and very muggy. We travelled by car (as the journey by train from Worthing would have taken 5 hours) and pre-booked parking using just park at the “Mecure Box Hill Burford Bridge” car park. There are public loos next to the car park, and I think you can probably park for free in the Rykers cafe car park- however it’s gates close at 5pm so be careful not to get your car locked in!
We set off around 9.30 and picked up the cycle track next to the southbound carriageway of the A24 it was really easy to pick up the rest of the planned route from there. We had a lovely time pootling round the lanes – all the pubs were shut as we passed through before midday, but we had a nice rest stop in the church yard in Leigh, and were delighted to find the Church hall at Brockham has set up a cafe so you can get hot drinks and cakes even if it’s not a Sunday! We sat on the village green and ate delicious homemade cakes and a nice proper coffee.
