  1. Another excellent route. Rode on Coronation Saturday at 6am. Only saw 10 cars before finishing. Quite and lovely. Roads and tracks made for bikes!

  2. The farm byway after the village of Bitterly [G on the map] had a padlock on the gate. I checked on the My footpath map website and it wasn’t showing it as a byway just a farm track. Fantastic route as always.

    1. Hi Harry, thanks for leaving this alert. Was it at the Bitterley end? (i.e. here )

OS maps show it as a byway, and I’m very happy to follow up with Shropshire county council to find out if its status has changed.

I found a temporary road closure and diversion notice from 2019 which suggests to me that it is a highway/byway. So it’s worrying that you found a padlocked gate.

        1. Hi Harry,

I just phoned Shropshire County Council and the officer I spoke with confirmed that it is a road that the council maintains, so presumably part of the highways network. They had no note of an official temporary closure.

If you can face it, it would be immensely helpful if you could also report the issue on the Shropshire County Council highways reporting tool, marking exactly where the locked gate was located. The complaint will carry more weight coming from the person who encountered the problem. Did you take a photo?

          Jack

          1. Hi Jack, I didn’t take a photo of it but i have reported it on the link you sent. The ‘What 3 words’ for the gate are. Promises.prep.lifetimes. I should have included this on the original post, hopefully it will get sorted. I’ve had a short trip over and ridden Rides 8,9,10 and 11 and absolutely enjoyed every mile, going to sneak in number 18 tomorrow on my way back to the flatlands of Lincolnshire. keep up the good work. Harry
