Be careful when you get past Kingston Seymour and turn off to cross the M5. The GPX/TCX file follows the route described in the book to find some wild swimming on the River Yeo. The track starts off very must and quickly becomes fairly unsuitable for bikes, unless you’re riding a mountain bike or adventure bike of some sort. I was riding a touring bike with 28mm tyres and mudguards and had to stop a couple of times to remove my wheels and get the mud out. I also got trapped by a herd of cows and had to clamber through nettles to find an escape route! When Jack describes it as an adventure, he’s not joking. If you don’t have the right kind of bike, best to find an alternative route to Yatton.

    1. Really helpful bit of info. We swerved this bit and cut across to Yatton through horsecastlem short 2.5 mile detour.
Otherwise great route, would defo reccomend

    2. Thanks Lindsay. In response to your comment and to complaints from the farm that some readers were cycling on the footpath, and leaving gates open, I have revised the route to keep to the road.

  2. I live in Clevedon near this route. If you want to replace the distance lost by not going ‘off piste’ through Yew Tree Farm I recommend turning right at the T-junction at Back Lane, follow this round then take a right at Broadstone Lane. This takes you in to Kingston Seymour from the other side, where you turn right at the village junction to go over the M5 and thence to Yatton. It’s a bit more rural and goes through quiet farmland.

  3. All enjoyable on a wet February day, we missed out on the wild swimming opportunies but ended up soaked from the raín and puddles. The Clifton suspension bridge is a wonder to behold.
We didn’t dare to go via Fish Pond Wood at Abbots Leigh with the ground being so sodden, we just followed the cycle route.
Thanks to Jack for planning the route. 🖖
