This was my 29th Lost Lanes Wales, ridden on October 9th. I started from the church at Llanfihangel Crucornau and rode 58km with 1070m of height gain.
Yet another ride full of glorious scenery and although it’s a long climb up to from Hay to Gospel Pass, on a gloriously clear autumnal day the views more than made up for the effort.
Keep an eye out for the many interesting old farmhouses in this area including, towards the end of the Cwmyoy road, Pont-Rhys-Powell Farmhouse. Parts of the main building date back to the early 17th century and the great barn opposite was built in 1703.
“Gair i’r gall” – Bag a lost valley to add to all the lost lanes. Turn left onto the mountain road shortly after passing Longtown Castle. Follow the road up and around the head of the lovely little Olchon Valley. Turn left after Llanveynoe then left again to rejoin the main route close to Monnow Farm.
