  1. This is a wonderful looking route through some truly stunning countryside. I like the way it bounces between extremes of the landscape and ventures way off the obvious choices. The sections in the Rhinogs hop onto some really remote feeling actions with some spectacular scenery to reward the rider. Make sure your weapon of choice has some low gears there are some really steep sections which, with the right gear, will reward the rider a hundredfold.

As for refreshment I’m going to throw my hat towards the Blue Lion Cafe, also in Harlech which I find impossible to resist and would get my vote for best in Wales every tIme. I’d also make sure I had a stop at Cadwaladers in Porthmadog. Coffee at the station is always a must too. There than these choices there is little on the length of the route so take supplies.

Some of this is on route 8 Lon Las Cymru – probably one of the toughest sections of the route to be honest. If you are looking for a good taster for the whole route- then you could do no better than this gorgeous day out!

    Lovely route!

  2. Ridden on 23rd April, 2016 – my fifth Welsh lost lane. I started from the rather limited street parking next to the large pay-and-display railway station car-park which was utterly empty. I rode 55km with 960m of height gain.

Another ride of great scenery with some lovely views back towards Porthmadog. You can feel as if you’re far away from civilisation at times. But watch out for all the gates! The ride is even better if you can time your finish, as I did, to coincide with one of the narrow-gauge trains steaming out of Porthmadog station and along the High Street.

“Gair i’r gall” – take a triple chainring for that long first climb. I passed a young lad pushing his bike at the bottom of the first 25% section who asked me to confirm that this really was the Lon Las Cymru cycle route. It was and with a lot more climbing after that first section!

    1. Hi Oliver
The GPX file works for me – it’s the same file that generates the map on the website too. If you can describe the problem you’re experiencing in some more detail I might be able to offer some help.
      Jack

  3. Ridden 18 June 2024 – A tough but beautiful ride. The hard climbs made up for by lovely, magical woodland descents. Many gates but it didn’t ruin the fun for us. We had a lovely cafe stop at Llew Glas before a quick jaunt up the steepest street in the world. We rode back rather than catching the train which was slightly dull in comparison to the rest of the ride but the road was quiet enough.
