  1. Hi
    Cant get your GPX link to do anything useful for this route; cant find the route by searchig Viewranger. Any tips?

  2. My 11th Lost Lanes Wales ride, ridden on 18th June 2016. I started from the parking bays alongside A466 (just north of the M4 junction) and used cycle route 42 to link up with ride in the centre of Chepstow. I logged 55km with 910m of elevation gain. Another lovely route mostly in one of two directions – up or down! But the Monmouthshire scenery more than makes up for the amount of climbing. As well as the lovely views over the Severn and the Usk valley, I spotted some early purple orchids on the climb to Trelleck and heard the loudest skylarks I’ve ever encountered on the ridge road after Kilcwrrwg.

    Note that the route details given on the web are slightly different to those in the book and miss out on the Feddw gardens. Although there isn’t much to see from outside, and visitor access is only on summer Sunday afternoons, the short detour past the house is still worth it for the lovely little lane.

    “Gair i’r gall” – other deviations worth considering include:
    – get a closer view of the ruins of Tintern Abbey by looping down past the visitor entrance and taking the footpath along the river to return to the A466;
    – sample the imaginative cakes on offer at the Old Station cafe just 500m off-route in Tintern. I went for the parsnip cake!
    – start or end the ride by cycling out across the old Severn Bridge and back on the opposite side for the best views up and down-river.

  3. Really enjoyed this ride; great views and Trelleck Road climb is good. Refuel stops near Tintern Abbey. Tredegar Arms in Shirenewton very welcoming.

  4. Rode this yesterday 23.08.19. We cycled to it from Bristol via Severn Bridge. Really nice route, lovely rambling hills through lush forests to begin with then a few ups and downs round mostly quiet lanes. Had a nice lunch stop sat by the Old Railway Bridge in Tintern (marmite sarnies of course).

  5. Cycled this lovely ride yesterday ((10/08/23). We tried following the route from the book as opposed to the route off the internet. Unfortunately, the key road that links the north and south loops is closed due to repair works being carried out. I would strongly advise to check if this has been completed.
