Again, a stunning day in the saddle. taking you from the spectacular coast in Bangor up into the Glorious Nant Franon. If you’ve never done this before give your self enough time to let your senses adjust and take in the sheer quantity of scenery you are about to experience!
Personally,I’m unable to ride through or from Bangor without a visit to the pier. Lovely cafes (open until dusk) and an epic stop on any bike ride. One of my favourite places on earth!
Lots off road, very gentle climbing through amazing places!
Great spot above Ogwen cottage foe a spot of Lunch (Take your own) watching the RAF Flying below you.
Fabulous route
Ridden on 24th April, 2016 – my sixth Welsh lost lane. I started from the small car-park on the A5 as it rounds the bend close to Bangor pier which is 600m from the start of the ride. To add some variation I took the A5 from the top of the climb back to Bethesda but this may not be agreeable on anything other than the quiet Sunday evening on which I rode. I travelled 36km with 510m of elevation gain.
Another ride full of great Welsh scenery with great views back along the Ffrancon valley towards the end of the climbing. Though, I can’t say I enjoyed the section of cycle track through the slate mines being bounced about on my 23mm tyres.
“Gair i’r gall” – it’s worth making a small detour at the start to visit the pier with its views across the Menai Straits.
The GPX file doesn’t download correctly, very short when import into Garmin, most other routes work fine, but 01, 03, 21 & 23 don’t work properly?? Any suggestions??
Hi Susan, this is a bug in the way Garmin handles GPX files with multiple segments. I have just tweaked the ones you mention as not working for you and hopefully they should be OK now.

That’s great, thankyou for looking at it so quickly. All the others worked fine and I’m looking forward to giving some of them a try!
